What We Do

By the left…

Drill is one of the few skills you’ll learn as a cadet that you will use on a regular base- it is an integral part of being an Air Cadet.

As an organisation, we pride ourselves on teaching self-discipline. Annual competitions are held at wing, regional and national levels where cadets are scored on their uniform, presentation and drill skills. All cadets and uniformed staff are expected to achieve a reasonably good standard of drill, but many aspire to become experts and eventually instructors. Each generation of Air Cadet teaches the next when it comes to drill, instructing them on how to participate in a drill squad, taking charge of a drill squad themselves or even playing a major part in ceremonial drill.

There are also courses for those cadets who enjoy and become experts in this area; an intensive course aimed at Senior Cadets to improve drill standards and gain a better theoretical and practical understanding of Drill & Ceremonial. Cadets who have successfully passed this course often take on the role of Drill Instruction and development on their own squadrons and may be asked to take on specific roles on larger parades.
