"I first joined the ATC just before I turned 14 years old- I had a shortened cadet career as I chose to join the Royal Air Force when I was 16 1/2 as a painter and finisher.

"I later left the RAF to join the British Army as a driver. After an extensive military career, I left the army and returned to volunteer with the ATC as a Civilian Instructor, before becoming a Warrant Officer in 1989. I took a further short break from the ATC and returned as a Sergeant.

I was able to work my way back up through the ranks of the Air Training Corps to my current position as Warrant Officer and Squadron Senior NCO.”
