MISS LESLEY-ANNE JOHNSTON

Squadron Roles: Squadron Training Officer, Squadron DofE Officer, Leading Cadet Training

Length of time in the Corps: 8 months

Previous Squadrons: -

“I graduated from university in 2007 with a BA (Honours) in IT Education and became a secondary school teacher. I teach Digital Literacy which includes IT skills and Computer science. During my 17 years of teaching, I have gained a lot of experience of working with children of different abilities, diverse backgrounds and special educational needs. As part of my role within school I have also had training in safe guarding children and have an extensive record of personal development in various teaching and learning strategies.

“I was inspired to become a volunteer with the ATC after hearing about the different activities and opportunities which the cadets participate in and thought that my experience of working with children would be beneficial in supporting this. My father has been part of the ATC for most of my life and I knew a little about the organisation. In September 2023, I attended my first parade night at 2214 Squadron and decided to submit my application to volunteer as a Civilian Instructor.

"As a child, I was never a cadet myself and it became very apparent that I had a lot to learn. I completed the CI training, participated in additional courses including first aid, attending parade nights and events to build on my knowledge. Within my first few months as a CI, I progressed to training officer on squadron, creating and supporting with the training plan for the cadet classifications and courses.”
